Sophia in the following answer that I got from her. I can understand her point!Religious fanatics are mostly emotionally and mentally weak people. They have a hard time dealing with turbulence's of every day life, so religion offers them a constant support. It must be nice to be able to blame all of your actions on God, so you do not have to take responsibility for them. They also enjoy getting together with others like minded people: their strength is in numbers. They gladly give up their ability to think as a payment for sense of belonging. Being led by the nose by power hungry religious leaders is their every day reality. However, intelligent and self assured individuals could never partake in an arrangement like that. Because we are used to question everything.

I'm not too religious myself, but if you look at it both sides are kind of the same; like when they let killers go free because they have had some kind of emotional trauma and are not able to control themselves....science and psychology have made just as many freaks as religion has. just because someone has education doesnt mean they have common sense..look at the astronaut who tried to murder the other chick.

You deserve a well thought of answer to this question. I'm not the person to give it though. Thanks for asking it.

Not entirely. But it is true that some people seem drawn to an ideology, whether political or religious because they need an order and value system in their lives are pre-ordained and sructured and with which they can psychologically indentify. The Nazi and Communist parties and such sects as the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are obvious examples. So broadly speaking, I agree with Sophia.

In general most main-stream religious people have a good moral foundation that they live by. Not usually will they be involved in criminal activities like murders, rapes, child molestations, robberies and thefts etc and most avoid racial discrimination and prejudice - they have been taught that it's wrong. Most try to live a good decent life and raise a family with moral values and there's nothing wrong with hanging out with others doing the same. They try to live a life of virtue because they believe that it's the will of a higher power and they want to be in line with that will. They know that:They have free will and do think independently for themselves, life has pressures and challenges and most step up and face them with confidence, a good deal of life is about making the right choices and decisions, and most try to do they best they can. Very likely, if your car malfunctions on a dark street and you don't have a cellphone to call for assistance from family or friends, then you would prefer a courteous, good-minded religious person to be the one who stops to render help because more than likely, you'll still be safe after he fixes your car and leaves you with a smile and a nice farewell.

This is a case of hasty generalisation ! The priests of those 'built-in defective religions' only call the adherents to"believe" first and avoid "contemplation! Those religions which insist on belief growing out of conviction and contemplation, encourage free thinking!
