My friends are in big trouble. Their house is being foreclosed and they need a lawyer who can explain them what is going on and what are their rights. But they don't have the money to pay attorney's fees. Is there a place where they can get advice for really really cheap...or for free? Also, they don't speak English.

www.daveramsey.comIt is generally a website about financial matters and getting out of debt but the guy Dave Ramsey does a talk show about all sorts of finacial/legal matters and has been doing real estate for decades made and lost millions he says and has written books to prove it. The main thing you will get from the website and his books though is about getting out of debt and not paying the stupid tax that he had too.www.clarkhoward.omAnother talk radio finacnial guru kind of guy. There are all sorts of things on his site from saving money for kids school and cheap plane ticket links to real estate info. I think between the two of these sites you may just find what you are looking for. Albeit a little more difficult than just sitting down with a lawyer and asking your question it is much much cheaper as well.Cheers,James

There is the option of free legal aid which provides assistance to economically and socially disadvantaged people.

If your friends are part of a large minority group in your community, there are often "Awareness Centers" which will help explain the local laws and offer limited legal advice. There might be somebody there willing to act as an interpeter for your friends with the lawyer or even the party foreclosing on the house. Another place to try would be your friend's church. Have them talk to the minister/pastor/priest/etc; there might be a person in the congregation that is an expert in the field. If nothing else, the minister will know of comunity groups who can help your friends.Finally, if all else fails, check with the Salvation Army. They might have a few resources to help your friends.

Find a cheap lawyer...I recall a story about a restaurant or diner that rents a lawyer for its clients once a week.
