I called the photographers on the list of recommended (not mandatory) vendors given to us by the reception location. I called about 4 until I spoke to the one and I really liked him so hired him.

If you try to google someone, that website going to tell you that they are crappy and horrible with people??? How about how they took crappy pictures at their last wedding? If you stick with word of mouth, you cant go wrong. You have planner, and decorators, and minister, and the people from wherever you booking the place that your getting married, that have worked with these people and know how they are. They know all the stories from the brides and from what they have seen. I would stick with word of mouth. Good luck

Your best move is to ask people you know who have been married recently who they used and if they would reccomend them. You can only find out so much from a website or an advertisement. Make sure you call a number of photographers and talk to them, and make sure you feel comfortable with who you choose. A photographer who you don't click with can add a ton of stress to your wedding.People who advertise on theknot and other related websites tend to be very expensive. But if you have that kind of money to spend, hey.. go for it. Listing sites like www.gatheringguide.com are great because they list everyone, not just the really expensive ones.

I was one and one time a man brought me his prtfolio and some of the pictures were mine, he got them from my lab, the best way is to ask friends or crash weddings and ask the photog for his or her card and observe them at work, call the bride and ask to see her photos.I've seen some real nightmares and people pay and get nothing. Be careful. The longer someone has been in business the more likely they will give you the names of customers you can call

I haven't gotten married or anything but I know the one I want...they are from word of mouth in a way because my boyfriend's cousin always has this woman do pictures of the two kids and they always come out great!

We found him in the phonebook and were reasonably happy with the pictures taken. What we should have done is get a family member to walk around with him and coordinate the pictures but we only missed a few and it's the hubbys family so pretty much good. |

To be honest I used the print copy of my local yellow pages and called to see who was available. When checking availability I also checked out prices and what packages they offered. I then scheduled a visit with the one I was most interested in and checked out his work.

I would ask around.... Ask EVERYONE!!! Call bridal shops, wedding planners, ask the people who did your invitations, your friends, and anyone who might have a recommendation for you. Anyone can put an ad online or in the phone book. I think the really talented photographers are the ones everyone knows about.
