I applied for a job on Oct. 10, was contacted for an interview on Oct. 12., interviewed on Oct. 23 and got the job offer on the 26 and now I have a start date on Nov. 26. I have already dealt with the lease situation (see What happens when a lease is not signed?). The new job is in Atlanta. Now the hard part of this relocation is planning the logistics. I do not have an apartment yet but will be in my new town from the 12th -16th looking at places. I am originally from Mobile, AL and I am relocating from SW Florida. My parents are renting a car one-way to come help me move. My plan is to rent a U-Haul vehicle, my parents will drive my car, I will drive the U-Haul and I will store my items in Mobile for about a week. Does anyone have any suggestions or easier logistics for this quick long-distance move?I think you guys are right. A one shot deal is going to better. I have a 2004 Pontiac Gram that needs to be hauled. I am going to call & go the U-HAUL place after work and see what they have availalable. I do not have the much. I have a two-piece sectional, coffee table, area rug, matress & bed spring set, a dresser drawer and a small T.V. The dishers and clothes, and documents are not an issue.I have even a better idea. I do not have a lot. I currenlty live in a 671 sq. ft. apartment and the stuff that I have is not worth paying U-HAUL 850.00 to haul it plus my car. I am going to call a local consignment shop and bargain a price and get rid of that thing. The box spring and mattress and old so I am throwing it away. The dresser I bought from a consignment shop for 30 dollars. My question has been answered but I appreciate additional comments. Thanks peeps.

I have made many long distance moves. The key is to move once. Otherwise you are going to cost yourself a lot more money. Find a place first then bring all your stuff so that you dont have to rent a storage space etc. Just try to find something with a month to month or very short lease. (we have even stayed at Holiday Inn Extended Stay) That way you can take your time and find what you really want. Its much easier to find the place you want to live after you have been there 6 months and know the area better.

One way rentals are expensive. How about flying (or bussing) your parents to you, towing the car with the U-Haul?Are you going to unload the U-Haul in Mobile then reload for the haul to Atlanta or pay rent on the U-Haul all those days? Neither of those options sounds good to me. U-Hauls are not cheap, especially one way.I would rent the U-Haul with a tow dolly. Tow the car and take your stuff straight to Atlanta. If you don't have an apartment by then, take your stuff to a storage unit. In town U-Haul rentals are about $40 a day, or maybe by then you'll have a friend with a big pick-up. Extended Stay hotel type places are nice if you need a place temporarily while you get settled in Atlanta. Good luck to you!
