Background: Have an M.S. in Comp. Science and working as a web developer for 4 years at a big company in So. Calif.Track 1: Should I get an MBA (at evening)Cons: Very expensive ($80000) for even good univ. that are non ivy league. for a regular cal state univ though its only $30000 but is the degree worthless ??Track 2: Study for CFA level 1 then try to get a job at a financial services firm and try to work on level 2 and 3.cons: ??Liabilities & restrictions:no background in finance, accounting or economics. Cant quit my day job until i get my degree/certification as am married (job not stressful though and can dedicate a good amount of study time)To do: 1) Should i first take a few accounting courses in community colleges2) then apply for mba directly or study for cfa3) MOST IMP. QUESTION: What would be the best way for a NON finance/accounting pass level 1 in CFA. Is studying the course materials by CFA Institute/Study prep is sufficient.

I don't believe you will need to switch because now a days there's a lot of Financial Analyst positions that are looking for individuals with computer science, programming, language, etc. experience. Just look for positions in BSA - Business Systems Analyst, Financial Analyst, etc. It will be helpful to have some finance and accounting experience but it's not at all necessary. Good luck!
