| I’m a student at HEC Geneva, attending the classes of university advanced studies in Marketing strategy, communication and e-business.Actually I’m studying the tracking of personal information and privacy protection in using the research engine's products/services like Desktop Search, e-mail, etc, of the two main search engines (Yahoo and Google).I'd like to ask Yahoo some questions about its position in regards to the private policy and protection of user’s data and also questions about your competitor Google. Thank you a lot in advance for your cooperation.1. The privacy threat on the Internet arises. What is the position of Yahoo in regards to the engagement in privacy protection and data collecting ?2. Do you have a legal department for privacy compliance and how do you proceed with user’s questions about the processing and collecting of their personal information?3. What types of information can you and do you collect with and without consent of the customer?4. Google has reduced the time they record users data to 18 month. How long does Yahoo keep the collected data? And what type of data (IP, logs, key-words, etc.)?5. In the report of 09/06/2007 from Privacy International about "Privacy Ranking of internet service companies" the results show that Yahoo is a better privacy performer than Google, but the report also shows that the initial assessment for Yahoo is “Substantial threat”. What is your position toward this result?. Do you agree with it?, if not, why not?6. The report also shows an alarming matter which is the ethic compass qualified as “poor”, due to the cooperation of Yahoo with governments with disclosure of information, including Chinese government and the disclosed search data to U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) for research purposes. What is your position toward this result?.7. In regard to the information that you disclosed to the DoJ, for contributing to a government's effort to uphold a federal law designed to shield children from online pornography (Child online protection act):7.1. Why didn’t you resist the of DoJ’s demand as Google did? 7.2. What kind of supports have Yahoo for arguing what your spokeswoman Mary M. Osako said at that time: “In our opinion, this is not a privacy issue…" and that: “ you complied on a limited basis and did not provide any personally identifiable information…"?7.3. What kind of guaranties can Yahoo users have now when using your products and services, if the Privacy International gave you a low qualification in regards to privacy matters?7.4. There are any others institutions that have evaluated your commitment in regards to privacy matters?8. What is your position toward Google Desktop Search and the entry of Google in your activities?9. What does Yahoo offer that Google is missing?. What are the main differences between you and Google in regards to products and services?9. What is your position toward OpenSocial launched by Google, considering the multiple data they can collect by offering this product to developers?. Do you have a homolog product? Or is it in development? |
