Ask the university the curriculum name for Software studies or Information Technology or Computer Science. Different university, different curriculum title.

Go their websites under careers and see what kind of qualifications you need for the job you want. These companies do more than computer specific things, they also market, sell, advertise, have accounts, janitors you name it they are businesses.. pick something you enjoy and do it.

You'll want to major in Computer Science. This degree will allow you to jump into web development, application development or any number of the different layers of software that get you excited. There's also other areas if computers is not your thing. You can also study business management, finance, marketing, human resources, etc. Companies need all the support roles to also run the company. In order to get into the Yahoo's and Google type companies, it *will* matter on two things: The school must be prestigious, like an Ivy league school or top engineering school if you get an engineering degree and you must achieve a 3.5 or better GPA. These companies only pick the creme of the crop. I personally know people who are 10+ years out of college and Google will ask for transcripts and their GPA. I've seen very experienced and well paid professionals get turned down at Google because they graduated with a low GPA.
