A neighbor asked me for help today (we're in a rural area without any military bases). He had a contract on his home he is selling to a guy saying he was in military (thinks it was Army or Marines) and separated. Had to put hold on contract because financing based upon military pay. Says he has reupped and awaiting orders to go back in uniform plus find out how much he will be making to reapply loan. Been waiting 7-8 weeks at home and says it will be mid-December before he receives orders and it will be sent to him via email, meanwhile house sits unable to be sold. Sounds fishy to me. Neighbor is really good person totally involved with church, community, family, etc., and hate to see him get ripped off. Told him to get with his realtor and get something in hand to prove this guy is authentic GI. Anyway, is the emailed orders story possible with you guys and ladies now on active? Only email I had was pmail (pigeon mail) :)Thanks for serving. You are heroes.

The story sounds a bit fishy. If this guy is a GI why doesn't he go thru VA to get a loan etc. If he reupped he should already have orders and know what he is going to be making etc. Regardless this person should have some sort of contact to verify his employment etc. Are they both using the same realtor? I would keep an eye on the situation.

I'm active duty, and have been for quite a while, and NO WAY are orders going to be e-mailed to this guy. They may show up in his AKO, but things are the same as they've always been: 5 copies of orders are in your hands at all times.

Story sounds more than fishy, if he had re-uped he should have had his orders by now and I can't see them sending any one their orders by e-mail. It would be too easy for him say he never recieved them. Your neighbor needs some one to figure this out, the more I think about the whole thing the less sense it makes. Smells more like the docks than just one fish.

Yeah, something's not right. The military will ALWAYS make sure you get a hard copy of any orders. They MAY email a set of orders, but it's very doubtful.
