I am looking to rent space in NYC to open up a new bar/music venue. What would should I know when renting commercial property?

The biggest question on my mind would be the terms of the lease, especially how you're going to be paying rent - is your rent payment going to be a flat rate or will it be a percentage of your sales? You should also take a look at the title to find out if there are any limitations to the property you're considering. Your broker should be able to get a copy of it for you, but you might consult an attorney if you have any questions, since it is not legal for the broker to explain it to you (not his area of expertise).
