No, I love my dogs, but, and this is a HUGE but, there is no way of comparing them to my own flesh and blood. I love my kids in ways that cannot be described on paper......

Love to me is the wrong term. I love my children but, I enjoy being with the dogs more than them sometimes. I have teenagers and they can be a pain in the butt.

I don't have any children right know, so my dog is kinda like my child. But heck no, there will be no living soul I will love more than my kids.

Granted, Helmsley took it to an extreme, but she did say the other 2 grandkids knew why she left them out (I wouldn't comment on it, either, if I were them. Which I'm not.) But she had wads of money. At least she took care of her dog. A lot of elderly people have dogs that will outlive them and never consider whether one of their family members will want to or be able to afford to take care of the pet. Check your local shelter for animals turned in because the owner died. There are a lot. So she requires a family member to take care of the dog and provides financially for everything the dog could possibly need, in life and death. That's pretty cool. I bet the dog treated her better than whatever things those 2 grandkids did to get left out!I have dogs. And a cat. And I love them tons and don't want kids. So that's a little different. I choose ot have pets for kids because I love pets and do not love kids. Should be interesting to see all the answers on this, though!

How did the two grandchildren and their parents treat her? Had she already provided them with trusts? You are all looking at it as young children and grandchildren too. My 25yo kid isn't constantly in need of me. My 26yo doesn't have the constant need of me. My dogs are constantly in need of me to provide for them. Hemsley's kids were much older. Maybe she had already supplied them for life and was just looking to make sure her "baby" was cared for. If something were to happen to my husband and I, a lot more money would be set aside for the 16yo rather than the older kids. She has more needs at this point of her life.

I have 2 kids and 2 dogs. If I ever had to choose, it would be no contest. The kids would win for sure.I've had afew dogs that have passed away from old age. You miss them, but you get over it. You get another dog eventually. If something happened to one of my kids, I would NEVER get over that. Your children are not replaceable.

I wouldn't leave my dogs millions of dollars.I would leave the money to family and to the breed rescue, and also to breed research, parent club of my breed of dogs. Also another thing to think about is this when you die if you have no family that will take care of your dogs you need to put in your will what you want to happen to each and every one of your dogs in detail. Make plans ahead of time so that your dog doesn't end up in a shelter or pound. Have 2-3 people lined up to take each dog.
