| Well first of all that you have to do is focus. It cant be all of those fields, you need to go for one. Lets say international trade. Pick foreign countries that are interesting for trade and research a lot. Then you can offer local companies that want to go abroad tips on how to do it, who to talk to, which mean of entry to use.Make sure you know about those countries ivestment opportunities, political and economic environment, buying power, demographic trends, educational levels, lifestyles. Also investigate the interesting industries there and the trends of those industries. Then you can also go the other way, consult foreign firms or firms that are not from your are that want to do business there. Make sure you learn about you business opportunites, create a good searchable website and offer consulting.Best luck with your business, it is hard work but dont give up! |

Consultants are confident, highly self-motivated entrepreneurs with years of experience under their belt. It is immaterial whether you are female or male in consulting. What matters is your experience level, and your in-depth knowledge of your field. That is what you sell, as a consultant. If your work experience level is low (less than five years of solid work experience with one or two employers), you are not ready to be a consultant, although I applaud your enthusiasm. It's like the old saying about jazz, if you have to ask, then you don't know. Basically, if you have to ask how to get started in consulting, it is a good indicator that you are not actually ready to get started in consulting! Make that a future goal for yourself, and obtain a sales position with a reputable company in a field that has personal meaning for you. Work your way up, take classes and workshops, read all you can, and network constantly. In a few years, you may be ready for going on your own--but you'll know. |

| Here's how I did it.You pitch your services to many, many people, and finally sell your services to one person. You don't make much money, but you work like h*** to make that person successful.Soon he/she, or his/her employees, are recommending your services to other people.Or an employee branches out to start their own business. They call you.Slowly, over years, you develop a long list of clients that are familiar with your work, and trust that you can deliver what you promise. At that point, you have succeeded. Now your real work has begun. Continue on for another 20 years, and you can retire comfortably (at worst) or extremely wealthy (at best). It starts with one person who believes in you. One person whom you have SOLD. Good luck. |
