My emachine crashed after a slow painful death. I'm looking for something less than $500 I don't play games. I rarely copy music, no digital camera. Mostly word processing and internet surfing. Maybe blogging or a webpage in the future.I've bought cheapies in the past: emachine, acer. Family members have had toshiba, compact and I haven't seen them to be superior. Prefer desktop

hhm... i think the best for what your looking for is a dell inspiron 531 or 530... i bought mine for $500 without any extras on it, with extras and scurity(which was a total ripoff) it will be like $750 which i thought was outragious. u can buy all stuff u need at walmart for less than $50 or even $40.

I would probably suggest a cheaper Gateway or HP desktop for about $350.00 - $499.99.

A Lenovo because its fast and has the things you need and it has Windows Vista Bussiness which you said you mostly do Word Processing and Internet Surfing and it also has Corel Wordperfect Office 12 and it has a DVD rewriter and but it doesn't include a monitor but you can use the monitor you were using on your emachine. All this is only 499.99 at Office Depot.THe links here:http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=504935&N=265489&An=browse

Just a helpful hint you could use the emachine parts off your old computer (monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc). If there is nothing wrong with these parts you can find a really good deal on the rest. You could get a good computer for $500.00 if you saved your other equipment. The monitor will save you about $150, the mouse / keyboard will save about $30.00, if you are willing to try this one the DVD/CD player will save you about $30.00 (if you can salvage anything else like memory or hard drive you should try) Unless it is so old that it is useless then it will save you money. hope this helps you out.
