how to operate a porch light with a timer type switch? Dang, no, just flipping a switch doesnt turn it on-oh hell no. I just bought this condo and it has one of these (evidently it was placed by another owner) and no one seems to know how to operate this freakin light, not even the condo pres., not my neighbor, not my realtor-dont know who else to ask.I have tried to contact the previous owners but no response, I would like to be able to turn my porch light on-its pitch black without one and it getting close to halloween.Or at least tell me who to turn to for help. Thanks

If it's a round knob, you usually just push the knob. Perhaps the switch is just bad.

Tried a new bulb? Does it have a motion detector? Make sure it has a good bulb in it, turn it on at the switch, then move around in front of the light. If it comes on it has a motion detector. If that is what it is and you get it working, you can make it stay on by turning it on, then flip the switch off for one second then back on. It should light and stay lit until daylight.Bert

you just turn them and they turn on. you may have a burned out bulb, or you may want to switch to a regular switch. switches are around $3.00

Many timer lights must be programmed in daylight hours, turn the power to the light completely off this may involve shutting off the breaker, once the power is off let it remain off for 5 minutes, restore the power and program it.If the timer is light sensitive, take several pieces of black electrical tape and cover the sensor and wait for about 10 minutes if the light does not come on the sensor is inoperable

Contact the manufacturer. They could tell you. Info would be on switch under the plate. Probably would be just as easy to replace the switch. If you want the dimmer type, buy it with instructions and set it when you install it. Make sure you turn off electric when working. When you are done, put the instructions in your file cabinet for later.

I think I know what you mean. When you turn the light on, it goes into the time program mode. To program you should have instructions. To override the program and turn the lights on, usually you need to turn the switch on, off, and on again quickly. Try it that should do it.
