Web hosting is hosting pages- A web site composed of pages, bunches of them stored on a server, which is where they are "hosted"e-commerce is using a web site to conduct commercial business and can take several forms.A custom site, with a shopping cart or other payment methodGenerally $500 - $3000A pre-built solution - $400-$1000An informational site only - if you don't do it yourself - $300 - $750If your site is hosted on a server you will have to pay them as well depending on the site it can run from $20 -$200 a month. You will also need to maintain the site $40 an hour - up to several hours a month - minor changes even less time.I'm a desinger so these are probably pretty good estimates, but it totally depends on how extensive the site is, how much data transfer, storage and manipulation is needed as well as what promotion you want to do.If you want to submit your site to search engines you can do it for free and hope they pick it up soon. You can pay ($100 or so for the larger ones) and get it in soomer or you can pay a co. to do it for you - $500 - $5,000 as well as make your site search engine friendly, and to promote it. Doing it yourself takes a lot of time and effort to stay on top of. Good Luck with your business.

E-commerce is a term to describe simply the process of online buying and selling. If a host is selling an e-commerce package it may include webhosting, but webhosting does not necessitate e-commerce. Webhosting is a generic term for all website hosting. Webhosting can be for any purpose: e-commerce, blogs, web space, personal or hobby, etc... It shouldn't be too expensive to host a small e-commerce site $10-20/mo, however you may have setup fees $25-$50 and most likely you will need help setting up your online store, which the cost varies by where you host. I recommend you actually call webhosts and they can assist you in finding what you need and packages that would work for you.

Compared to offline businesses, the investment required to start an online business is minimal. A popular way of earning money on the internet is by providing information and services. This can be monetised by advertising or charging a subscription. You can also make money online by selling products on auction websites like eBay or through your own website. You can't really compare web hosting and e-commerce unless it is e-commerce hosting. You could see e-commerce as a sort of add-on, or enhancement to your web hosting package (in Yahoo Small Business' case, it is specially designed for e-commerce).For web hosting with e-commerce, you should not be paying more than $20/mo. Prices will vary, and you should pick one that fits your store's needs. If it is a relatively private store compared to one with heavy traffic, you shouldn't be paying the same price. And no, you do not pay the web hosting fee and the e-commerce fee. You usually pay the web hosting fee. The web hosting usually has PHP and MySQL support (quality shopping carts need these). If you are lucky, it will have a shopping cart system you can instantly, easily install.I seriously don't recommend Yahoo! Small Business if you're on a budget. If you have no PHP design knowledge, it would still be cheaper to hire someone to design your e-store and make it look even more professional.Sites I recommend if you're on a budget are:BlueHost.com 6.95/monthDreamHost.com "Code Monster" 15.95/modreamhost has a lot of coupons around.I would recommend DreamHost if you plan on running a very large store that requires a lot of space and bandwidth. If not, your best bet is BlueHost.
