PETA Worker Who Picked Up Dog To Be Tried For Thefthttp://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/news/vaapwire.apx.-content-articles-AP-2007-06-27-0009.htmlPaul: We do not know that she removed the collar, and I would hardly consider picking up a loose dog on the side of the highway in Southhampton VA stealing. The charge is also a felony. Quite frankly what more do you want? The death penalty?!I want to know why the dog owner has not been charged. There are leash laws in the seven cities of Hampton Roads of VA. I would suspect the same of Southhampton. If this guy was allowing his dogs to roam free at night, why has he not been charged.I can only assume it is because of his job title (not to mention that part of VA is still "Good Ole Boy" territory.Nevermind. I guess Southhampton is an exception and does not have any leash laws.

She took the dog's radio collar off, then stole the dog. PETA is notorious for vandalism, theft, and defamation. If PETA employees aren't treated like the terrorists that they are, it will continue. So no, it's not fair. The charges filed should have been much more serious.

What about the border guards in the US, doing time for shooting at a drug dealer who was crossing the border (Mexico) illegally and ran from them? What's the world coming to, when peace officers are turned into criminals for doing their rightful job?I can sympathize.

If the dog had a collar on, she couldn't honestly say she was rescuing a stray, as she said she was doing. She was picking up a dog from a possibly dangerous situation(by the side of the rode), but the dog was collared so he wasn't a stray. Plus, the PETA workers are not official animal control officers, so the person who called in that they were picking up an animal(an animal that was clearly marked as an owned animal) off the side of the road was in the right. The PETA workers should have just stayed and kept an eye on the dog and called Animal Control to take care of the situation. Upon further reading, you discover that the dog was clearly marked as a hunting hound, and that roaming hounds are not illegal in that area of VA, so they had no right to put the dog in their vehicle, they should have contacted the proper authorities, Animal Control. And yes, I think it's fair. If PETA is going to council their members to pick up strays, they need to educate themselves and their workers on the animal related laws of that area. That they didn't remove the collar is up for debate in my mind, because it was found right in the area where the women picked the dog up. Why didn't they pick the collar up, too? I'm sure those things aren't cheap, and that the person who owned the collar would probably have liked it back if it was ever found. And the links I am providing are just in the order that they came up in my Yahoo! search for Andrea Florence Benoit(they also have a bit more info then the link you provided), I am not just providing links that support my opinion on this.http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Andrea+Florence+Benoit&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8

Personally, I could see someone who has radical views about hunting trying to take a dog, even to go as far as to remove it's collar. But we DON'T know this woman personally, or her motive. I can see people who have radical views about PETA burning this woman on the stake. That makes you as bad as you think she is.

I think she should be charged. The dog was clearly marked and she did remove the collar. There was no reason to remove the collar. Since she removed the tracking collar and not the other collar, it stands to reason that she knew what it was and had no intention of giving it back to the owner.

PETA members deserve anything bad that happens to them. I love animals, but I'll be damned if I'm going to stop eating them or wearing their fur.
