Unlike television and mainstream print media the Internet thrives on Open unfettered communication, Honest discussion ( for better or worse ), Conflicting viewpoints, and Freedom of disseminating information. The government and the huge multi national corporations cannot currently control the potential damage from open discussions online. I don't think that will last long.I predict that the internet will become regulated and homogenous. There will be no anonymous interactions and all the sites will be owned by a few companies ( and the content carefully controlled ) much like Television, Print and Radio. This will happen under the guise of terroism protection, idenity theft, or some form of national interest. So enjoy the freedom of information while you have it and I hope I am wrong.

The people will NEVER stand for that. We still outnumber the idiots at the top (and that includes the corporate ones!) |

excellent question! There is ALOT of money at stake when it comes to the internet. Eventually, my guess is, that it will be regulated by the government. And that..... is a very scary prospect!right now, everyone is equal. If your website gets alot of visitors, then your website is relevant, and it doesn't matter WHO you are. It's like the days of the Wild West.... every man has a chance to stake a claim in the Internet nowadays.... but not for long!Check out this article. Good read on this subject. Title: "The Golden Age of the Internet."

If the internet does become controlled by the government, there will always be something like it. Worst comes to worst, if it does become regulated and homogenous, then there will always be hackers, coders, netheads, and etc that will find a way to make another, more discreet version of the internet...Internet will live on unrestricted for years to come and there is nothing that will stop it. I agree that it wont in its current form now, but later it will evolve to something better.Just remember,"They cant stop the signal"

I don't think that it would be able to be regulated, I mean maybe a little, but there are way to many people with servers in their business or house that have their own websites to be able to get control of most of them would be no easy task.
