I feel that students back in the day (50 years+) had a much easier time studying and a greater wealth of knowledge than most students today. It could be because of their deprived state of not having the internet, many tv shows, etc. This to me seems as more of an advantage because it would lead them to allocate much more leisure time into things that matter. Today I see so many people with a lack of knowledge not because they are stupid, but because they have become lazy through all that the world has to offer in their interests. I admit I am a victim of the guilty pleasure of easily reached leisure time. It is a real problem for me and I am positive it has to be a problem for other people who want to succeed, but lack discipline in their endeavors. I feel depriving is a great influence. So I am wondering what do most of you think about the way students progress in todays educational environment?(In my defense I have gotten a 143 on the stanford-binet, so I don't think I'm stupid)

A student has to be motivated to learn. Some people are self-motivated, but for the others the stick and carrot approach usually works. Parents have to turn off the TV until the homework is done. Striving for a good grade may be counter productive because some students are just plain dumb and will never be able to do the work. In that case, the parents should work with the school to find a curriculum that the student can suceed; otherwise the student will become discouraged and be a problem.

Well, I think schools today hold kids back. People always say stuff like your not young for ever or make the best of your childhood, yet we can't embrace that because students like me are stuck home doing homework. These days you have two choices. 1.Have no social life and but excel when your older. 2.Have a great childhood but a tough adulthood. What happened to option #3?
