Yeah I recently started getting a high pitched whine inside my computer, it increases and decreases in volume and sometimes isn't there at all although it does seem to change when I am actually "loading" something or "saving"/"accessing" a file on my comp. It's there when the computer is on, and then when I "Shut Down" the computer it's still there. Although, when I turn off my power supply the whine stops as well (I sure hope it would...). However, I don't think it's my hard drives because I disconnected both of them and turned on my power supply and the whine was still there. I think it has something to do with my motherboard because as soon as my "DRAM power" LED lights up the whine starts, I don't know if the whine has anything to do with the DRAM but I just thought it was interesting...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably one of the fans - they do strange things sometimes.

It is most likely one of the cooling fans inside the computer or power supply that is making the noise.

It could be your power supply since electricity can produce noise and vibrations (humming sound) when having a "bad contact." If this is the case, it could damage your mother board. You can also observe a significant decrease in performance due to the possible decrease (or increase) of voltage.

Cpu fan, case fan. Use a can of compressed air, and blow it out, GOOD! Unplug from AC, take the battery out, and any peripherals that can come out, before you do. If this doesn't do it, you might think about having a tech take a look. If one of the fan's give up the ghost, so will your laptop!
