They're bored with each other and blame it on the other one. Each of them think they'd get on better in the town Jackson on their own.I can't think what a jaypan fan is tho'

Jaypan Fan = Japan Fan , that she is coyly holding up to her face & peeping over.Just think of how country folks speak. The slow, Southern, drag it on,for a country mile....word! it's a very LONG "A" sound...Jaaaayyyyy Pan Fan

It sounds to me like she says "japanned" rather than just "Japan." Japanning is a form of lacquer used on decorative objects, so I envision it as an ornate, high-gloss fan, highly likely to have an Asian-inspired design. It's clearly a status object to her.Love that song, and for a story about people who've lost the fire, it could hardly be hotter.
