I submitted my information to a mortgage broker a week ago today. I have heard hardly anything from them except to ask for explainations on a few things. My question is....How long should it take to hear whether I have been preapproved or not? My credit is fair but my income is MORE than average for the amount I want to Mortage and I have a 15-20% downpayment already savedplus I am VA eligible

Usually preapprovals takes minutes. Unfortunately, the banks are scrutinizing everything but your high school grades these days and are taking longer. I would shop around for another lender, but don't expect much.

You most certainly should have heard something by now! A week is absurd! Call Coldwell Banker Home Loans at 1-866-613-6126. They guarantee a same day loan decision, or they will pay you $250! The call takes about 15 minutes, and you do not need to sign with them-You will get a pre-approval letter that any home seller in the country will accept. Good Luck!

What state are you in? You must get a pre qualification or actual approval letter in Virginia... they don't allow pre-approval letters. A pre qualification or pre approval should be issued within 24 hours, but an actual approval letter may take 2 weeks or more. http://www.choicefinance.net/
