I received my first bill from Chicago Association of Realtor. This for renewing my membership. I just wanted to know if I have to pay everything on the bill or if some of these things are voluntary. I ask this because it does say "Voluntary" on some items. If anyone can help out I will appreciate it very much. Most likely this [person would be a Realtor by themselves or works in Chicago Association of Realtors. There are three things that are listed as Dues. Namely 1. Annual NAR Dues $1102. Annual IAR Dues $1593. Annual CAR Dues $1964. CARPAC Voluntary $255. CAREF Voluntary $106. RPAC Voluntary $50Any extra information would be appreciated.

The correct answer would be had by calling the Chicago Assn of Realtors and ask them directly.

i have license but have never sold property .. got license because i am interested in the buying side / wanted to know more . i do not pay any of these ... only the annual due to OBRE to keep license and I keep my license in a holding company to be legal but avoid practicing ...selling transactions and office space etc. i assume these are business card designations ? probably more valuable if you are working on sales side of real estatei would assume voluntary translates to optional .. probably due is requirment to maintain things ?

The dues structure is this: You joined the CAR. One of the tenets of membership is that you will also join the IAR and the NAR, so all of those dues are needed to retain your active status. The voluntaries are just that: voluntary. These funds are used by the Political Action Committees of the Realtor associations. NAR has the largest PAC in the world. You should pay the voluntaries, but you do not have to.
