My fiance and I want an Island wedding, preferably Maui, but we fell it is too much to ask of our guests. We have done some research on renting vacation rentals that would hold about 25 people and us covering that and having our guests just pay for airfare, but that air is still so expensive. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it more affordable for our guests? Is there some kind of package deals for so many people?

My HTB and I were planning a destination wedding until we realized that we'd rather1) Save our money2) Have all of our family and friends be able to attend3) Have a peaceful (non-family!) honeymoonTo be considerate to your guests, let them know of your plans at LEAST a year in advance. I don't know if you've ever been, but Maui is expensive! They need time to save up.You don't get any "deals" for anything, airfare, rentals, etc. In fact, with vacation rentals they usually charge more for lots of people. A resort wedding is by no means cheap.Good luck

My best friend did the same a few years back. There was a package where she went that included everything and she only had her closest family and friends go and we all went in together to pay for the cabin rental and wedding as her big wedding present from all of us. There were about 20 of us and it turned out to be a great weekend. Check out all the discount travel sights and see if you can get any deals there or go to a travel agent and see what you can find.

Search for more appropriate places NEAR where you both live ---or near where the BRIDE'S family lives... there are plent of lakes with very beautiful beaches that would be LOVELY for a beach wedding....it doesn't HAVE to exactly be IN Maui to APPEAR that it was in Maui.... with the right decorations, ANY beach can look like a tropical wedding site...and then all the money you saved on transportation and the headaches you saved yourselves AND your guests can be spent on MUCH nicer presents for the bride and groom rather then expensive airplane tickets to and from the wedding....you could PROBABLY also get a hotel for all your guests to stay in that COULD create a tropical Island theme for the HOTEL as well.

Wow, I think that spending your money on a vacation rental is a very generous thing to do. If you really want everyone you invite to be there, be sure that you give them lots of notice, at least a year. Keep in mind that because they'll be spending all that money to fly to Maui for you guys, they may be hesitant to give you guys gifts. Go and speak to a travel agent who will be able to help you with discounts for large groups for airline tickets, tourist hotspots, etc.You also might want to book a room in a nearby hotel for your wedding night, so you two can have some alone time.

Have you thought about getting married on a cruise? You can get married either on the island or on the boat. Cruises have packages where you just pick the cruise, island or on boat, and bring your dress and that's it! You'll save TONS of money compared to a wedding at your location. Packages are around $1,000-$3,000 depending on the island and package. So all you have to pay for is the cruise, your dress, rented tux, and the package. Practically stress free! Plus, you will be married and on your honeymoon at the same time! I only wish I was doing this. It seems that planning a wedding at home is so stressful, that it is pushing me to elope.

I am an event planner and have planned a couple of weddings in Maui. I have done the very lavish ones to the inexpensive and quaint. You can get inexpensive rooms in Maui you just have to know what you are looking for. If you want to get married in Maui usually it is up to your guests to pay there own way including rooms but if you wish to pay for rooms it can be done cheaper. All of you staying in one rental usually is not a good idea. Do you want to spend your wedding night surrounded by your friends and family or with your husband? Plenty of hotels offer great group rates. Where are you planning on getting married? Sometimes where you will hold your wedding offers discounts as well. I have planned several Hawaii weddings and would love to help you. Feel free to email me. Good luck and Congratulations!
