It is like taking a car to an automechanic, I don't really know what is going on under the hood so I just have to take his advice on what he wants to do to the car.It is the same with finances, how do I know the mortgage broker (who wants my money) is going to tell me what is best for me? I read articles and books but they never answer the questions I have or I am simply not able to figure out how to apply the information to my situation.

If you work with an advisor who charges you a fee instead of a commission you are much better off. The fee advisor works on a percentage of you total assets. If you account goes up he profits if your account goes down he suffers. It is now in his best interest to help make your account grow. A commissioned advisor makes his money up front and could care less if you make or don't make money. Please read my profile and send me an email

If you're smart, you'll get estimates from 3 different auto repair shops. The same holds true for financial advice. Go to 3 different advisors and see what they have to say. Don't pay any of them for their advice. Then decide which one makes the most sense to you.Oh, and don't listen to anything a mortgage broker has to say. They're desperate for money.

You can read online info at yahoo finance, bankrate.com. If you have a particular question ask it on this forum.
