There are no "usual fees" or "commissions" in real estate. It is illegal to SET RATES in real estate.

You talk about a referral fee. That sounds like a kickback to me. What did this REALTOR do to earn this referral fee other than send you business?.In my opinion it is unethical behavior to pay a referral fee for business. Your REALTOR should refer you to the person most qualified to handle your case, not the person who is willing to apy you a kickback or a referral fee as you call it.A good example to consider is that of Medical Doctors. They do not pay referral fees. Your Doctor refers you to the Doctor that in his opinion is most qualified to handle your case. The same should be true of REALTORS they should refer you to the most competent REALTOR for your case. They should not refer you to another REALTOR because that REALTOR is willing to pay a referral fee.Anyone who receives or pays a referral fee is a disgrace and should have their license revoked.

The answers you got are wrong. A broker can give another broker a referral fee. There is no standard, but I usually give or receive a referral fee around 25%. If you have any business in Orange County, San Diego County or Riverside County, I'll give you 25%. For Los Angeles county, it would depend on the location.Regards...
