I am asking this question to get some thoughts from others on how one would invest $100,000. Personally, what would you do if you were handed a check for $100,000? Would you start a business, invest in stocks, buy real estate. Currently I am invested in Mutual Funds, but I want some ideas on other investments. I would love to start a business, I just can't figure out what. I would love to invest in stocks, but am still learning the whole stock market deal. Any thoughts?

I hear you. I would like to start a business. I don't know what. $100,000 doesn't seem like enough to start a very good business. I would follow Jim Kramer's advice and buy a diverse group of stocks. I would start reading annual reports and news on the companies that I am interested in. I would invest in industries that I understand.

Handed $100,000, I guess I would refill my prescriptions, then eat out at a cheap restaurant.

I would start a BBQ Concession Trailer business. My husband and I have restaurant experience and we have taken the last few years and created our own dry rub,and BBQ sauce. Our Lowe's Store here in town has asked us to put a trailer on their lot!

First you must realize at least 1/3 of that will go toward income taxes. Real estate is considered one of the best investments.

Real estate is the way to go as long as you can get cash flow.

1. 5-10% in gold;2. 5-10% silver (alone, or in combo with platinum and palladium)this would be my "wealth insurance", and i wouldn't even think about it afterwards. the reason is that cash is inherently risky nowadays.3. retain an accountant to keep your taxes fully paid to Uncle Sam. then consult an asset protection advisor to find the best offshore haven for you money to protect your financial privacy and from frivolous lawsuits and the like. "friends" and "relatives" could be coming out of the woodwork to hassle you for money. as long as you report your income and pay your taxes, you are allowed to keep your money anywhere in the world. if you would ever be so unlucky enough to be hit with a frivolous judgment against you, it would be hard, if not impossible to enforce it if assets were offshore.4. once you protect your privacy and assets and understand how those structures work for you, then invest to your heart's content.
