I understand I have to contact each individual MLS location (multiple ones per state) and work out a contract with them. Surely someone else has already done this and I can just get a data feed from them. I only need daily or possibly monthly updates.

Sounds like it would be interesting information, but I'm not sure if it's publicly available. You might have better luck asking in the real estate section.

If you are good at scriptind and scraping you can try locating each of the tax assessors online databases. Each one is unique so you would have to create a script for each township. But I was able to locate incredible information in various townships. This is probably what Domainia.com does, but scraping their site is probably against the user agreement :)Here is on in such site:http://ira.property-appraiser.org/There you can get ALL the property records, MLS does not have all of them AFAIK. Of course you have to be on the lookout for them changing their site layout and breaking your scripts. Such is life as a programmer.

The information is public record. I work in the real estate industry and we get all the information from the property assessors directly. If you needs specifics, visit their websites via the state websites. Also, most housing info is on Zillow.com.
