My dsl connection blocks port 80 and uses DHCP for a protocol. Can some one direct me in the correct direction using my own server to host a website. One more question can some one tell me about dslhosting as a program, I have done some research and have thought about the possibility of using third party software.Well I don't know if you know this but you can host a website with DHCP you have to configure the protocol to broadcast the new i.p. each time it changes I beleive it is called automatic updating. This was a problem you speak of years ago when routers were not programble but now they are called smart routers this means they learn a i.p. address and untill another outer updates it bank it remembers it's data.

For one thing if you don't have a static IP address it will be tough for people to find your site. Most DSL is DHCP which means your external IP address will be changing at regular intervals, which will make your site unavailable. You will generally need to upgrade your DSL package as well as let your ISP know you will be running a web server. Some ISP's don't like this because you could theoretically use their own services to compete against them. Best bet is to probably go through a hosting company. Very cheap, mostly reliable, and they do all the work for you.

In order to host a web page you need a web server. You would also need a dedicated static line for your internet. Your best bet is to use a hosting service from a host provider. It is cheaper and less problematic. Use the link below to look for a provider to suit your needs.

DHCP has nothing to do with whether or not you can host a web site.
