I thought they rejected the capitalist economy? Maybe they're just hippie-crits!SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Forty years after the Summer of Love celebrated the free-living ways of the 1960s counterculture, bidders paid more than $1.1 million at auction on Tuesday for Grateful Dead memorabilia. A cream-colored 1975 Travis Bean electric guitar belonging to the band's legendary, late lead guitar player, Jerry Garcia, brought in $312,000 in a brisk sale, auction house said.Enthusiasts also bid $102,000 for an acoustic guitar and $39,000 for a Gibson electric guitar played by Garcia.http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070508/en_nm/gratefuldead_dc

Hippies, liberals and democrats are all hypocrites. Do as they say not as they do.

You have missed the point – to be a hippy you have to "believe" rather than have a grasp of the facts or consequences. Don’t bother them with the mundane – they are floating on the “positive energy”There is nothing so stupid as the educated man if you get him off the thing he was educated in. - Will Rogers

I can tell you that every time the Grateful Dead came to my City, we spent the entire time trying to keep the acid freaks from jumping off buildings and running in front of cars. It was nightmarish. I grabbed one punk with 35,000 hits of blotter and $50K in his backpack. I also made the very first bust in the City for PCP. Maybe it's the memories of that time that drove the memorabilia prices up.

Because most of us "hippies" are now middle aged and have had many years to work and build up a nice chunk of change. We aren't all still sitting on the lawn smoking doobies all day.Besides,it is their money, they are free to do with it whatever they want.I would have loved to get my hands on one of those Jerry Garcia guitars, unfortunately,my pockets aren't that deep. You have been misinformed as to what a hippy actually is.The real world is a reality, most of us that lived during that time are smart enough to realize it.We can conform, but never forget.
