I'm sure everyone has been in or at least seen people arguing about religion, god etc. But in reality has anyone ever changed their mind and gone "oh I never thought of that, now I'm going to become Christian/atheist etc.". What I find is that it usually leads to the atheist saying something like "yea but there's no proof" and then the religious person says something about the Bible or that u don't need proof, or that some how We are the proof (which makes no sense at all). And then after all that it just ends up dividing the people and making them feel frustrated with eachother (for being so stupid).

I fight to preserve our secular republic. When that requires taking on believers, I take on believers. The religious right has done so much damage to this country in the past 25 years, I am fearful for the future.

Actually I've heard of several people who have changed their minds from what they've read here. I've heard of several theists who have become atheists. I'm not sure if any atheists have become theists, though.

I disgree. Debating teaches me things about people and the world from another perspective. I may react harshly about that or make jokes, but I really value it. You can learn something from anyone, even people you don't agree with.

I try to avoid questions that beg an argument, instead answering questions that are asked in ernest, from people trying to understand religion, concepts, etc., and those who make me examine my own ideas and beliefs.

Why do you ask?? I agree about the fighting being dumb, but by posting this question you are just asking for trouble.

1 Corinthians 9:16: "....I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel".When a Catholic receives the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are strengthened, and "strictly obliged", to spread the faith:CCC 1285 - "...It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt1art2.htm
