Victorian Kitchen Standoff: Which is Better?

July 17, 2009 in Uncategorized

Kitchens can make or break a piece of residential property, and unfortunately it’s often the latter. So when we spotted not one but two good lookin’ kitchens in today’s real estate listings we just had to get your opinions, lovely readers.

The first house is in Noe Valley and the light-filled kitchen highlights include a hexagon tiled black and white floor with an intricate pattern; an apron front kitchen sink, with helps keep with the home’s Edwardian roots; beautifully brushed stainless steel appliances; and the real deal maker: instant access to your deck directly from the kitchen. Hello, BBQ and fresh herbs.

The second house is located in the Panhandle and has highlights like a traditionally (awesome!) black and white checkered floor; nice contrasts between the white cabinetry, black granite countertop and back splash, and stainless steel appliances. The deal maker for us is the sheer size and height of the room (goodbye, lingering fried bacon smell) and the little glimpse of the wood paneled wall that connects the kitchen to the laundry room.

Which is your favorite?

SeeClickFix Sees Problem with 311, Fixes it

July 17, 2009 in Uncategorized

Earlier this week, we wrote about how the city’s 311 hoards requests for curb-ramps, failing to make information about the requests available. Lame! But fortunately, Curbed reader Ben Berkowitz at SeeClickFix whipped up an awesome solution.

You can use the above widget (or go directly to their site) to submit a request for a curb ramp. SeeClickFix will process your request and forward it to the people in SF city government who need to see it. And they’ll also publicly display your request on a map, so you can see who else has been making requests near you.

As our colleagues at SF Appeal put it: See, 311? It’s not that hard.

Providing a Helping Hand: The U.S. Department of Housing and…

July 17, 2009 in Uncategorized

The U.S. Department of Housing and the Urban Development just granted San Francisco $8.75 million buckaroos in stimulus funds to help pay the rent of folks who are about to get evicted. Some of the funds will also go towards getting homeless off the streets and into jobs. The program is “designed to provide short- and medium-term financial assistance such as security and utility deposits, utility payments, moving assistance and hotel costs.” If a person applies to the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing program they can get up to three months of “rental assistance” or 18 months of “partial rent assistance.” [SF Examiner]

On the Market: Tenderloin Sliver

606 Ellis, a 2-bed, 1-bath house has just be listed with an asking price of $618,750. The house is nothing spectacular, but we thought we should mention it because 606 Ellis is a rarity. A rarity for the neighborhood, at least. You see, in the Tenderloin there are only four single-family homes. Four! It completely makes sense, but it’s still interesting. The house sold in May of 2009 for $728,505, and a friend said he recently saw a foreclosure notice on the home. And developers? You can’t knock it down and build condos, sorry.
