Tough Decisions: Next Door, a homeless shelter in…

January 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

Next Door, a homeless shelter in the Tenderloin, and Sanctuary, a homeless shelter in SoMa, are looking at having their hours slashed in a proposal for 20 percent in cuts for the Human Services Agency. All city departments were instructed by the mayor to come up with proposals for 20 percent in cuts. For the HSA, that cut equals a slashing of $18.7 million. The shelters would be open for 15 hours instead of 24 hours, which will save $152,427. HSA is trying to “preserve core permanent housing and services,” said HSA director Trent Rhorer. [SF Examiner]

On the Market: Portola Home For Sale, Sweet Basement Bar Included

January 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

Alright, so it’s not exactly a basement bar. But it on the “lower level” and it does have its own entrance (did someone say in-law apartment?). But seriously, how often do we see listings that feature a “knotty-pine social room”? The lower level also has an unwarranted second bath and kitchen. Anyway, onward! The main house has four bedrooms and one very pink bathroom. Asking price? $825,000. The last time 1300 Silver sold was in August of 2009 for the exact same price. Think the current owners will get their money back?

Tonight, We Dine On BART: SFist tells us that BART is…

January 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

1-27-11bart.jpgSFist tells us that BART is considering revising its ban on food and drink on some of its platforms and trains. It’s all part of the plan to bring on retail vendors within certain areas of BART stations. Although convenient (if you’re into that), we can’t deny that slurping down a Big Gulp on an upholstered BART seat on a moving train seems like a recipe for disaster. [SFist]

PriceChopper: Clarendon Heights Mega House Takes Another Chop

January 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

Was: $4,500,000

Then: $4,198,000

Then: $3,998,000

Then: $3,800,000

Now: $3,498,000

You Save: $1,002,000

28 Clarendon was built 1959 and then underwent a complete renovation by award-winning architect Simon Kwan in 2010. During that time, two levels were added below the existing 2-story structure. Now it’s a fancypants 3-bed, 3.75-bath 4,537 square foot contemporary abode, complete with floor-to-ceiling carrera marble walls and views galore from every room. Unfortunately none of this has helped with the sale of the house, as it’s been sitting very pretty on the market for 224 days now. Today it took another chop, bringing down the asking price to $3,498,000. Highlights include an elevator that looks like it could double as a sauna, a huge master suite big enough to house a sleeping and sitting area, a glass wall at the entry stair and a four story courtyard.
