Greg Anderson, the man busted for dealing steroids to former Giants great Barry Bonds, is now being shunned by little league baseball. “A Northern California youth baseball league has barred Barry Bonds’ former personal trainer from coaching his son’s team,” reports BCN (via KTVU). “The president of the Burlingame Youth Baseball Association says Greg Anderson is not a registered coach and is prohibited from being on the field during games.” [ more › ]

The Webby Awards, which are still alive and kicking, were held in New York City last night. Of the many winners, who are allowed to deliver a speech containing only five words, hilarious homosexual activist / journalist Dan Savage made the following speech, touching upon the (not-so shocking) Tracy Morgan anti-gay comedia routine that happened in Nashville last week. Independent filmmakers willing to brave Mid-Market will be up for some cheap rent starting July 1. City Insider tell us they are lining up for space, but with only 10 applications for 12 office spaces, the artistes can probably rest easy. Requirements to get the space include either being a San Francisco resident or working on a project set primarily in the city. Any suggestions for a theme for the intrepid filmmakers, dear readers? The money-saving potential contract emphatically rejected by the Muni operators union last week might stick after all. Arbitrator Carol Vendrillo, who was brought in per the Prop G scripture passed last year, ruled that the contract between the SFMTA and the union members must be adopted. Also per Prop G, Vendrillo’s decision is binding and will take effect on July 1st. Earlier this year the Muni operatros voted to grant their union president the power to authorize a strike. Whether Union execs will brandish that power has yet to be seen, but the Union did hold a special meeting yesterday evening to talk about the decision. [ more › ]

Attempting to cross at Harrison & Main Streets.
Our mean streets: the excellent Streetsblog SF covers the most dangerous intersection on the pedestrian-unfriendly stretch of Harrison Street from the Embarcadero to Second Street- a wide street dedicated to Bay Bridge traffic in what has become an increasingly populated neighborhood. Since 2003 there have been three pedestrian deaths at the intersection, uncounted injuries and any number of low-speed fender benders. Of course, Streetsblog takes the opportunity to kick exemptions to parking requirements in new buildings, but we seriously doubt the drivers involved in this particular hot traffic mess live in One Rincon Hill or the Infinity complex. It’s more likely to be drivers on the way back to Moraga and Lafayette through a route that replaces the old Embarcadero Freeway access to the Bay Bridge. Various streetscape improvements have taken place on north-south streets like Beale but crossing Harrison remains an activity for the quick and the brave, and planned east-west improvements apparently won’t take place until more developer fees are paid. Meanwhile, properties south of Harrison will remain less desirable, no matter how attractive otherwise. Just try leaving One Rincon Hill on foot sometime. Totally worth reading, with pictures of imperiled little old ladies and women pushing strollers.
