The Bionic Woman Goes For A Walk or I hope I Don't Catch Fire Due to Excessive Nerdiness

(UPDATED with results, below next to each device)

Okay, so the good folks at Jawbone finally got a replacement band to me! As you may recall, there was a pretty big discrepancy between the distance traveled on my FitBit Ultra and UP, and the calorie count didn't seem right, so I wanted to do a real comparison, including some GPS sources and the devices I had already been using.

So…. here we go! As you will note in the horrible webcam photo, I am armed with:
-FitBit Ultra: 2,085 steps, 0.9 mi, 98 calories
-UP: 2,320 steps, 1.09 miles, 75 calories
-Garmin Forerunner 405CX with Heart Rate Monitor: 0.99 miles, 111 calories (baseline for calorie count)
-iPod Nano (1st Gen) with Nike+ Foot Pod: 1.1 miles
-iPod Nano (current gen) with integrated Nike+ (no foot pod): 2,083 steps, 0.868 miles
-iPhone 4S UP App, integrated GPS: 1.1 miles

The discrepancy is significantly smaller this time! Perhaps that was due to my first UP band being defective. (FitBit said 4,198 steps, 1,586 calories; UP said 5,904 steps, 267 calories; difference in calories most likely because FitBit counted steps climbed and I assume the rate at which I climbed them).
I would say all of the devices are pretty much inline; some measured one tenth of a mile less, some one tenth of a mile more, but not far off! The difference would add up in long distances, and throw off results if you are training for a race that you need to hit a certain pace for, but for the average user they will provide a pretty good measure of your activity!

Accuracy: Garmin Forerunner 405CX
Ease of use: FitBit Ultra
Most data-on-the-fly: FitBit Ultra or iPod Nano (Nano will additionally provide pace, FitBit will additionally provide floors climbed and step count)
Ease of wear: UP
Lets me listen to music while being easy to wear: current gen iPod Nano

Google Maps was used to determine exactly 1 mile; this was measured on a map, viewed on my computer, not via GPS. This distance was consistent with the reading on my vehicle's odometer, as well as TomTom GPS in-car and Garmin GPS on-wrist.

Help file mistake reveals that Google+ will get Foursquare-like 'check-ins.'

A Google Places help file prematurely released but since removed says:

"If your customers have to visit your locations in order to do business with you, you can request that they check-in on Google+ in order to redeem your offers. They can choose to share the check-in publicly or with some of their circles, which helps spread the word about your business on Google+. They can also choose to keep their check-in private and still redeem an offer."

That Google+ would get check-ins, and that Google+ checkins would replace those on Places and Latitude was always a safe bet.

But I love this part: "They can also choose to keep their check-in private and still redeem an offer."

It's the benefits of other check-in services, without the necessity of spamming your circles.
